Job Description:
SUNY Delhi seeks a dynamic, forward thinking and engaging Communications Faculty member to join the School of Liberal Arts starting Fall 2018.

The School is seeking a scholar-practitioner with demonstrated teaching and field experience in communication arts. Duties include a 4/4 teaching load, including courses in communication, both theoretical and applied, such as public speaking, composition, organizational communication, cross-disciplinary and technical writing, and multi-platform production, that supports a diverse set of majors from across campus; participation in the development of related undergraduate programs and student internships; and courses in the college's growing Honors Program as needed.

The majority of Communication courses are offered to fulfill General Education Requirements to students from a wide range of programs and backgrounds. The college is also interested in developing new courses and degree offerings in areas of applied communication.

In addition to scholarship, teaching, and online program development, active participation in the college community is expected, including student advisement, curriculum development, special projects, mentoring adjunct faculty in the area of specialty, service learning, and departmental and college committee work.

Program Development

  • Participate in annual systematic assessment of program
  • Participate in analyzing data and recommendations for curriculum and programmatic revisions where necessary

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based instruction
  • Post and keep regular office hours for the convenience of students
  • Participate in the assessment of courses, student learning outcomes, and program outcomes
  • Incorporate student service learning opportunities

Advisement

  • Assist in advisement of students
  • Guide and counsel students toward personal and career development
  • Track student's completion of progression requirements

Academic & Organization Commitment

  • Serve on campus committees
  • Participate in faculty meetings
  • Participate in accreditation reviews and reports
  • Engage in the academic and organizational life of the college
  • Pursue scholarly interests

Requirements:
Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or significant equivalent experience in communication or related field; ABD applicants nearing the completion of a PhD will be considered.
  • Previous college-level classroom and online teaching
  • Experience teaching diverse populations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Significant applied knowledge and field experience
  • Evidence of scholarly activity and civic engagement
  • Familiarity with communication technologies and controversies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in communication or related field
  • Previous college-level classroom and online teaching
  • Experience engaging with and teaching diverse populations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong attention to detail, and cross-platform computer skills
  • Previous experience with digital courseware or learning management systems, and teaching hybrid and/or blended courses
  • Evidence of significant applied knowledge and field experience
  • Familiarity with communication technologies and controversies, historically and current
  • Evidence of scholarly activity and civic engagement

Additional Information:

  • Salary $50,000 - $52,000
  • This is a 10 month academic year, tenure track position
