Desirable Qualifications
Experience working as an F-1 student advisor. Knowledge of immigration law that pertains to F-1 students. Experience as a DSO (Designated School Official ). Experience at a California Community College is preferred.


Special Instructions to Applicants
The DSO will have all Designated School Official responsibilities based on F-1 immigration regulations. The DSO must be well versed in the use of the SEVIS program as the responsibilities enumerated all require SEVIS experience. The responsibilities include checking status for I-20 travel re-entry signature and on-campus work authorization, Curricular Practical Training Approval, Optional Practical Training recommendations, Change of status advising and transferring out procedures. The DSO will function to inform F-1 students of the immigration regulations pertaining to their F-1 status requirements and benefits. The DSO will also be required to communicate as a representative of the college with the Department of Homeland Security, specifically with the following sections: US Customs and Border Protection, US Citizenship and Immigration Services and the SEVP program.
