Degree and Area of Specialization:
A master's degree is required; a Ph.D. is preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
-A minimum of seven years (ten preferred) of professional leadership experience in administering academic programs, preferably at the undergraduate level, including working collaboratively to develop and implement a strategic vision for teaching and learning.
-Experience developing and implementing course access and enrollment strategies for new and continuing students.
-Experience identifying and facilitating opportunities for faculty and instructional academic staff involvement in student-facing initiatives in high-impact practices.
-Experience in identifying and addressing the professional development needs of graduate teaching assistants as well as initiatives to engage faculty and instructional academic staff in enhancing their teaching.
-Ability to efficiently and effectively analyze resource needs and make budget allocations in support of strategic objectives, preferably as related to the delivery of undergraduate education.
-Excellent supervisory and management skills, with the demonstrated ability to build, manage, mentor, and motivate an effective team.
-Ability to navigate a complex academic community, including the ability to build bridges and strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
-Exemplary interpersonal and communications skills.
License or certificate:
The Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning serves as a member of the College of Letters & Science's leadership team. This position, working closely with the Dean and Deputy Dean, will provide leadership, advocacy, coordination, and administrative support for teaching and learning in the College. The College delivers over 80 percent of all credits taken by first-year students enrolled at the UW-Madison, and 60 percent overall. This position, in partnership with the Associate Dean for Student Academic Affairs and the Associate Dean for Academic Planning, works with the Deputy Dean to develop and implement the strategic vision that guides undergraduate education within the College and serves as the key liaison between the College and departments on issues related to instruction.
