Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Under limited supervision, supervises the locksmith shop and functions that serve the University of South Carolina including daily operations; maintenance of the University's lock system, door hardware, and special security devices, re-keying support of campus departments and development of key schedules.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

High school diploma and 7 years experience in specialized trades area; or in a diversified building or vehicle maintenance, or construction activity.

Preferred Qualifications

Seven years of experience as journeyman locksmith with scheduling experience desirable.


Ability to comprehend blueprints, specifications and plans. Ability to organize, plan, and schedule. Problem solving skills. Ability to manage multiple and complex duties concurrently. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize work activities in alignment with the goals of the department and to meet time restrictions and work within specific resource limitations. Ability to assess training needs of subordinate employee, and initiative in discharging duties.
