Major Exploratory Associate

Job description

The position of Major Exploratory Associate works as a member of the Stuckert Career Center team and a campus-wide collaborative advising & career teams charged with providing quality exploratory advising and career services leading to graduation and a career plan. This position will have a dual focus ensuring best practices in both academic and career advising. This individual should have a passion for educating our exploratory (the largest population of first-year students at the University of Kentucky) and first-year students towards a career direction which leads to graduation. In addition, they should be able to demonstrate sensitivity to all classifications of students who require assistance and have knowledge of professional development within academic advising and career practices.

Physical Requirements

Sitting and/or standing for longs periods of time; repetitive motion tasks; occasional lifting of objects up to 20 lbs; occasional job related travel.

Preferred Education/Experience

• Prefer a Master's in higher education, counseling, social work, student personnel, communication, or related field.
• Prefer a minimum of 5 years of experience working with undergraduate college students and an in-depth knowledge of the career needs of exploratory and first generation students as well as a variety of experiences working with first and second-year students.
• Experience in college/university academic advising and/or in an advising leadership role; preferably one that worked with exploratory students plus career services and/or student services for a minimum of 5 years' experience.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
