Overview:

Under direction of the Head Men's Basketball Coach, the incumbent will assist with coaching and developing a nationally competitive NCAA Division I Men's Basketball team.

Position Summary:

	
  • Assist with the coaching of men's basketball student-athletes in practice and competition
  • 	
  • Support the conditioning and training of student-athletes
  • 	
  • Teach and develop sport specific skills and coaching strategies to enhance the athletic performance of student-athletes
  • 	
  • Assist in the success of team performance and eligibility criteria
  • 	
  • Recruit quality student-athletes within the guidelines of the Code of Recruitment if required by the head coach
  • 	
  • Handle film exchange
  • 	
  • Enforce written team rules and expectations including on and off campus conduct
  • 	
  • Compliance with NCAA, Mountain West Conference, Athletic Department and University rules and policies
  • 	
  • Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of academic progress and eligibility of team members, and in the coordination of team travel as needed
  • 	
  • Prepare data and reports as necessary in support of NCAA, Mountain West Conference and University rules compliance
  • 	
  • Encouraged to assist in the promotion of gate receipts and fund raising activities
  •

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    	
  • Have strong communication and motivation skills
  • 	
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and policies
  • 	
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basketball skills, tactics and strategies
  • 	
  • Coaching philosophy and teaching concepts must be compatible with those of the Head Coach
  • 	
  • Ability to work cooperatively with coaches, staff, faculty, students, and members of the community
  • 	
  • Commitment to academic integrity and compliance with University, conference and NCAA regulations
  • 	
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and project a professional attitude
  • 	
  • Ability and willingness to support the equity and diversity commitments of the department
  • 	
  • A history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations
  • Education and Experience:

    	
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education or by an equivalent international institution of higher education
  • 	
  • Experience coaching men's basketball
  • Preferred Skills:

    	
  • Experience coaching men's basketball at the collegiate level
