Position Summary:

Incumbent will provide coordination and oversight for effective delivery of subspecialty care to patients in the outpatient Urology clinic. Incumbent serves as a single point of contact for patients and/or family members for the purpose of effectively communicating the patient's plan of care, and coordinates care with the physicians and members of the healthcare team.

Salary Range:

Rate Minimum $95,985.36 Maximum $114,714.72

% Effort

Assists in the planning, design, marketing and implementation of educational programs initiated by the UCI Urology Program. Interacts with foundations, professional associations, medical professionals, etc. to promote the goals of education and community access.


Develops, modifies and implements a plan of care that is specific to the disease, age, and needs of the patient. Coordinates with Medical Center personnel to effectively and timely implement the plan of care, including scheduling initial consultations, referrals, follow up appointments, ancillary services, etc. Delegates patient care activities to appropriate members of the health care team, provides effective leadership and ensures that care is safe and of high quality. Serves as an advocate for the patient during the development and implementation of the plan of care.


Serves as a clinical expert relative to urology, providing education and consultation services to the clinical staff. Assists in triaging of patients. Conducts effective teaching sessions for nursing staff, medical trainees, etc. on the subject of urology.


Serves as a single point of contact for patients and/or family members for the purpose of effectively communicating the patient's plan of care. Acts as a source of information and articulately responds to questions, providing resources, guidance, and education about diagnosis and course of treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Ability to design and implement patient and family education programs

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the HealthSystem

Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload

All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Computer familiarity using Word, Outlook and Excel, or similar database software

Current BLS certification

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Experience coordinating care for patients with complicated medical diagnosis

Minimum 1 year experience working as an RN or 3 years MA/LVN experience in a clinical setting

Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job

Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties

Strong written, oral communication, as well as effective problem solving and negotiation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Current California RN license

Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms

Previous experience working as a nurse navigator (care coordinator) for patients with complicated medical diagnosis, preferably urology

Specialty nursing certification relating to patient population
