Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications

Job description

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, an NCAA Division I institution and member of the Southern Conference, invites applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications. The successful candidate for this position will be part of the external operations team and will:

  • Manage and supervise three (3) athletic communications staff members to ensure athletic communications responsibilities for 16 Varsity sports are being coordinated, communicated and executed at a high level.
  • Manage the athletic video productions department to ensure all video content and production of live streaming of athletic events are executed to a high professional standard.
  • Manage and edit the Athletic department website
  • Provide digital media support, including social media, video and digital asset management
  • Manage, coordinate and monitor all athletic communications social media posts
  • Serve as athletic communications liaison with athletics website provider (SideArm Sports)
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the media and ensure the timely dissemination of accurate information, including news releases, event results and statistics for multiple programs, including Football.
  • Collaborate with the external operations team to conceptualize, create and distribute strategic and cutting-edge content
  • Be responsible for timely reporting of records and statistics to appropriate service bureaus and to CitadelSports.com
  • Manage strategic informational, marketing and promotional efforts with coaches, athletic administrators, external operations team members, and campus constituents
  • Work with the appropriate coaches and professional support staff to conceptualize, design, produce and distribute print, electronic and video material such as record books, game programs, and email updates
  • Write and edit news releases, game notes and feature releases
  • Maintain and update history and record books
  • Manage team rosters, statistics, records and photo archives
  • Identify, coordinate and manage athletic communications game-day staffing needs and responsibilities for assigned sports
  • Be responsible for meeting deadlines and coordinating multiple tasks effectively and efficiently
  • Be responsible for understanding and adhering to all Citadel, Southern Conference and NCAA rules and regulations
  • Be self-motived, have knowledge and strong interest in college athletics, game production, social media and digital marketing
  • Be expected to personify The Citadel’s core values of Honor, Duty and Respect
  • Be required to attend games and events and work extended hours, including occasional nights, weekends and holidays; Travel in order to perform assigned job functions
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics communications/media relations/sports information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign and Photoshop
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge and experience in management of athletic web pages
  • Knowledge and experience with NCAA statistical data and reporting systems, including automated StatCrew software
  • Social media experience, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • NCAA Division I experience
  • Experience as contact for FCS Football program
  • Demonstrated proficiency and creativity utilizing trending social media outlets
