Summary of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be conducting research aimed to investigate the resistance/susceptibility of new potential apple pollinizers to several pathogens including Neofabraea perennans, Phacidiopycnis washingtonensis, Sphaeropsis pyriputrescens, and Erwinia amylovora. The incumbent will conduct inoculation and re-isolation of the pathogens and assess symptoms of infection, and will be expected to collect and analyze data and maintain excellent research records. The associate will be expected to summarize results, prepare reports and presentations for conferences, and write scientific manuscripts for publication.

Required Qualifications:
1. PhD. in Plant Pathology, Mycology, Microbial ecology, or related scientific fields obtained within 5 years of the start date.
2. Minimum skills required to be successful in the position include experience culturing fungi and bacteria, performing inoculations, and isolation of microbial pathogens from plant tissues. The successful candidate will possess the skills to isolate and identify plant pathogens using visual and molecular techniques.
3. The successful candidate must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal and both oral and written communication skills.
4. The successful candidate must be exceptionally self-motivated, reliable, and able to succeed in a diverse and cross-disciplinary environment.
