Position Summary:

Under the direction of the UC Health Chief Procurement Officer, the Director of Laboratory Strategy leads UC Health system-wide laboratory initiatives which may include strategic sourcing, human resource management, and benchmarking. Working collaboratively with Pathology and Laboratory Medicine leadership at all 5 University of California Health Systems, the Director of Laboratory Strategy proposes and leads laboratory related projects in support of UC Health goals. As a strategic sourcing manager, the incumbent develops and implements strategic sourcing strategies that meet the needs of the University, leverages spend, and negotiates best-in-class supplier contracts.

Required Qualifications:

8 to 10 years of high value and volume sourcing in the health care industry

Ability to lead and advise cross-organization workgroups, at least four years as a direct manager of staff

Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent business experience/training

Excellent oral and written communication skills, listening, critical thinking and analytical skills

Excellent organization skills, including meeting facilitation and decision making

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Experience with cost modeling and related financial analyses. Proven ability to manage, prepare, administer, and direct the control of the budget/organizational resources

Knowledge and experience with laboratory operations, policies, and practices with at least 4 years in a leadership role

Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job

Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties

Project management experience

Solid and proven knowledge of sourcing policies, practices and state-of-the-art electronic sourcing systems

Strong customer service and interpersonal skills and the ability to coordinate work with others, both internally and externally, to accomplish tasks

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in related field
