Responsibilities:

Reporting to both the Dean, College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) and the Associate Vice President, Development, the Director, Giving & College Initiatives for CSSH will focus on major gift-level fundraising, pipeline discovery, and translating CSSH academic initiatives to Development priorities.

The Director will work with the Director of Development for CSSH and colleagues in University Advancement to develop fundraising initiatives targeted to special constituents who have the capacity to make significant gifts to CSSH. S/he will manage a portfolio of 100+ select major gift prospects, including alumni, friends, parents, and university leaders, with a focus on raising major gifts at the $100k to $999k major gifts. The Director will identify new prospects, make discovery and qualification calls, establish cultivation and solicitation strategies, and solicit gifts. S/he will work to achieve a high level of engagement from constituent groups and build and enhance constituent relationships with Northeastern by involving them strategically in special programs and events. S/he will catalyze and enable new initiatives that provide meaningful and substantive engagement opportunities for CSSH.

The ideal candidate will be an exceptional writer. S/he will skillfully draft development correspondence on behalf of the Dean, eloquently translating CSSH academic initiatives to Development priorities. The Director will utilize collaboration and relationship building skills to engage with the Dean's office and CSSH faculty and staff to identify new funding opportunities for the college and the university at-large.

S/he will assist in the management of one full-time Development Associate.

Candidates should have a proven track record in soliciting and closing major gifts and be able to demonstrate successful relationship building with institutional leaders.

Qualifications:

-The university is seeking a highly entrepreneurial, energetic individual with 8+ years of progressive and demonstrated development experience with proven success in frontline fundraising
-Strong interpersonal skills necessary for building relationships with external (donors, prospects, trustees) and internal (deans, faculty, staff, colleagues) constituents
-Demonstrated ability in strategic planning for a comprehensive, sustained operation necessary to carry out the vision, goals, and fundraising aspirations of the university.
-Tested ability to work closely with high-level decision makers, trustees, and other top-level volunteers
-Superior verbal and written capacities for communicating development priorities
-Highly collaborative in approach and enthusiastically embraces team work
-Strong management skills
-Ability to travel frequently, including nights and weekends
-Evidence of appreciation for and a commitment to the mission of CSSH
-Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s preferred.
