Reporting to the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) Manager, the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) Assistant helps the HRPP Manager ensure quality assurance and compliance with HRPP policy and manages policy implementation. The HRPP Assistant also assists in the development and submission of Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols and plays an active role in the HRPP's education and outreach efforts and staff development activities.

Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assists in the pre-review of research proposals to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations, as well as CUNY-specific policies and procedures;
- Assists in responding to inquiries regarding research studies involving human subjects;
- Maintains communications and provides support to investigators throughout the review process;
- Supports outreach, training and education sessions for researchers, IRB members and appropriate campus staff including training in the use of IRB software (IDEATE);
- Assists with various administrative duties including, but not limited to, coordinating meetings, workshops and other IRB events;
- Attends HRPP meetings (on and off-campus);
- Participates in continuing education and professional development activities;
- Assists in conducting quality control functions for the HRPP office that may extend to all areas of operation including review of files, minutes, policy drafts, outreach and education materials, internal staff guidance and instructional manuals, and other relevant documents;
- Completes special projects and other assignments as directed by the HRPP Manager;
- Performs related duties as assigned.
CUNY Title Overview:
- Assists with the administration of College research programs and coordinates research facilities.
- Works with faculty and others to prepare, set-up, and monitor budgets for research project expenditures, including new faculty start-ups and funds for facilities
- Collects information for, and prepares fiscal and program reports on research projects
- May assist with preparing grant proposals and providing information to funding sources.
- Assists with space planning for research efforts
- Works with Environmental Health and Safety personnel on planning, monitoring, and compliance
- Maintains databases and other systems that collect information regarding College research activities
- Schedules, coordinates and prepares materials for meetings.
- Coordinates with other offices to prepare agendas and reports.

Bachelor's Degree required.
A preferred candidate should have:
- Knowledge of principles of ethical conduct of research with human subjects; applicable federal regulations (OHRP, FDA, and other government agencies) related to human research subjects protection.
- Familiarity with IRB policies, procedures, and operations to assume role as the assistant administrative contact for the GC/Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) faculty, students, and staff.
- One year of professional experience working in a research environment such as an IRB or supporting office, higher education or medical center grants office, social and behavioral, science, biomedical, or medical research laboratory or another setting requiring regulatory or administrative expertise.
- Academic background in bioethics, research ethics, professional ethics, or applied ethics.
- Excellent written, critical thinking, organization and time management skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Ability to follow through on assignments with minimal direction, independently prioritize work and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively and diplomatically with a broad range of researchers and other individuals internal to the GC/ASRC and CUNY and to resolve problems in an effective manner.
- Effective technology skills, with database search and management.
