Job Summary


Reporting to the Foundation Executive Director and to the College Controller for financial and accounting technical matters, this position oversees the daily financial operations of the Foundation including the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, developing the appropriate internal control procedures to encourage the effective and efficient operations with governing laws and/or regulations. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Oversees the daily financial and fiscal reporting operations of the Foundation including cash management and accounts payable
  • Leads and manages the monthly and year end closing including analysis and verification of assets, revenues, expenses and fund balances as well as manages the Foundation budget
  • Ensures all accounts and funds are analyzed and reconcile appropriately and discrepancies are corrected.
  • Monitors accounting and data to ensure efficient/effective operations that facilitates accurate and reliable reporting
  • Ensures Foundation financial activities comply with GAAP, GASB, CASE and Foundation policies and procedures
  • Supervises, reviews and prepares financial analysis and reports required for internal reporting as well as external auditing and reporting
  • Implements College wide policies and procedures for gift receipt and management
  • Implements and maintains College wide donor confidentiality policies and procedures
  • Leads staff in their ethical and accurate fulfillment of their duties
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements


  • Master's degree from an accredited college/university in Accounting or Finance and five (5) years of relevant work experience; or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and nine (9) years of work experience in governmental or public accounting
  • Three (3) years as an administrator of a complex financial organization
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge of non-profit/governmental fund accounting with a working knowledge of accounting, operational and financial reporting issues
  • Knowledge of accounting and operational issues that affect restricted gifts and grants
  • Proven financial management skills with extensive knowledge of applicable GAAP, GAAS, GASS and CASE standards
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • High level of management, planning and coordination skills with a proven ability to lead a diverse workforce
  • Excellent employee development and performance management skills
  • Skill and experience with software for fiscal and related management applications (i.e. Financial Edge)
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, external auditors and/or boards of directors
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with user communities of diverse backgrounds and skill levels
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignments as needed
