The shift for this position is Tuesday to Saturday, 4:00am to 12:30pm.

Brief Description:

The purpose of this first-level Supervisor position is to supervise custodial assigned staff; maintain buildings according to Department/APPA 2 standards and to participate in daily operational tasks.

The section supervisor ensures:

  • appropriate training of staff
  • efficient and cost-effective delivery of services
  • all work is performed in a safe manner.
  • work is completed according to Department/APPA 2 standards and within time frames
  • approved cleaning supplies, materials and equipment are ordered and distributed.
  • client requests and complaints are responded to immediately
  • an atmosphere conducive to the total learning environment is maintained
  • staff follow scheduled time and protocol for time documentation
  • an active Customer Service environment is maintained among custodial staff
  • documentation regarding On the Job Injuries and progressive discipline is entered at earliest possibility
  • guide custodial personnel in the performance of their duties and provides overall support for other scheduled functions
  • a positive employee engagement on a daily basis.

Your key responsibilities include:

Plans, assigns, coordinates, inspects and reviews daily custodial performance. Ensures department standards are met. Makes adjustments to daily cleaning assignments impacted by absences. Participates in custodial tasks when coverage is needed due to employee illness or vacations. Responds to work requests per department standards. Assist the Custodial Manager in implementing programs and operational practices for an effective and efficient operation. Coordinates and participates in snow removal activities for University buildings. Responds to emergencies per essential personnel requirements. Performs administrative functions that require electronic documentation of process, procedures and communication.

Educates staff on current policies, procedures and operational standards. Conducts documented training sessions on safety and operational procedures. Annually, reviews employee operational procedure book; updates as necessary. Ensures S.D.S. documentation is always up-to-date and available. Informs staff of problem areas. Conducts bi-annual building inspections; documents inspection results and communicates them to staff. Disseminates pertinent information to subordinates in a timely manner. Prepares and conducts performance reports and in house presentations to department leadership staff.

Prepares performance plans, performs coaching sessions, and prepares annual evaluations. Reviews PDQs for congruence with job duties. Resolves staff conflict issues immediately. Assists the unit work group manager in reaching staff developmental goals and objectives. Performs administrative functions that require electronic documentation of process, procedures and communication.

Conducts consumable supply / material inventory weekly. Orders and distributes consumable supplies / materials to building storage areas. Ensures --- ordering follows "just in time" protocol. Ensures equipment is working effectively and safe. Equipment repair is scheduled immediately so maintenance down time does not negatively affect service delivery. Submits work orders for building repairs outside of the custodial scope of responsibility. Transports supplies and equipment to building locations using custodial vehicle. When necessary, obtains supplies and equipment from local vendors using custodial vehicle.

Effectively communicates custodial activities and building repair issues with building occupants. Develops positive relationships with building proctors so that communication meets service expectations.

Schedules and participates in 16 hours of professional training annually using internal and external training material available.

Responds to emergencies per essential personnel requirements, so that mission critical operations can resume as quickly as possible. Ensures exterior entry areas / pedestrian walkways are clean and safe; free from debris and seasonal weather-related hazards including snow and ice.

What we require:

  • 2 yrs of custodial/laundry experience appropriate to the work assignment.

What we'd like you to have:

  • Two plus years of Supervisory Custodial experience appropriate to the work assignment.
  • Demonstrated experience with computer software - Word, Excel.
  • Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of motorized cleaning equipment.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational commitment.
  • Knowledge of the practices and procedures of custodial work.
  • Skill in the operation, use, and maintenance of equipment, materials, and tools in work.
  • Facilitates processes and management activity to maintain and care for physical facilities.

Salary: $41,268.00 annual ($3439.00 monthly)
