Position Summary: The University of North Carolina Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) seeks to develop faculty across the University and across their careers by offering resources and programs in research, teaching, leadership, and mentoring. CFE also supports the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) as part of its course redesign and instructional innovation grants programs, as well as a new initiative to broaden campus interest in SoTL. The Research Associate will - Play a vital role in assessing the effectiveness of initiatives, programs, and other services offered by CFE, including those undertaken in collaboration with faculty members and Information Technology Services (ITS). Current and future projects and programs for which programmatic assessments are being implemented or considered include: course development, course redesign, emerging technology pilots, faculty mentoring, faculty leadership, faculty research, and resources and programming for general faculty development. To measure impact of programs, assessment activities may include longitudinal tracking of pertinent data, development of in-house data management policies and infrastructure, and strategic dissemination of assessment results. - Help support faculty members interested in taking a systematic approach to the evaluation of their teaching methods. - Work with CFE colleagues and faculty members to contribute to the scholarly literature on teaching and learning, mentoring, faculty leadership, faculty research, and general faculty development.
Education Requirements: A Master's Degree in Education, Psychology, or a related discipline is required; Ph.D. preferred.
Qualification and Experience: The successful candidate will have experience in higher education, with knowledge of, and experience with, both theory and practical application of academic assessment planning and methods; skills in program or educational research and qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and reporting; the ability to communicate clearly to a variety of constituents, both orally and in writing; and demonstrated adaptability and flexibility to execute multiple goals and plans within a fast-paced, team-oriented, organization. The candidate should have at least three years experience assessing academic outcomes at the program, department, or institution level. Some experience assessing the effectiveness of technology in teaching and learning is preferred. Candidate should be proficient using online survey software (e.g. Qualtrics) and statistical analysis software (e.g. SPSS).
