The College of Applied Studies at Florida State University invites applications for a teaching faculty position in our Nurse Anesthesia Program at the FSU campus in Panama City, FL. This position is a 12-month, full-time, specialized, non-tenure track teaching faculty position with opportunities for promotion and multi-year contracts. This full-time teaching faculty position will have teaching, research, clinical management, and service responsibilities and will work closely with the Nurse Anesthesia Program Administrators to meet the needs of the program. This appointment will begin in Fall 2018.
Primary responsibilities are a) teaching graduate courses (clinical and didactic) in the Nurse Anesthesia Master of Science program at FSU Panama City; b) assisting Program Administrators in clinical coordination of the program and maintaining programmatic accreditation standards; c) recruiting, advising, and mentoring graduate students in clinical, instructional, and research activities; d) participating in curriculum/course development, data analysis for assessment and evaluation purposes, and implementation of initiatives related to ongoing program development and student success; and e) assisting with additional administrative duties as needed for the growth and success of the graduate program.
An earned Doctorate (Ph.D., DNP, or DNAP) from an accredited institution with graduate preparation in the basic and clinical sciences relevant to nurse anesthesia practice is required. Additionally, this position requires the candidate to have a current unencumbered license to practice as a RN/APRN or privilege to practice (or eligibility for license) in the State of Florida and a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). Additional preferred qualifications include: experience as faculty or clinical coordinator in a COA-accredited nurse anesthesia program; knowledge of COA and National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists policies and procedures, and experience and or certification with directing, teaching, and coordinating a simulation lab.
The FSU Nurse Anesthesia Program (NAP) is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA). The mission of the FSU NAP is the advancement of the human sciences through a philosophy of passion-infused, scientific education and the application of clinical education and practice for the betterment of citizens in the community both locally and nationally. The Master’s in Nurse Anesthesia program is a 7-semester graduate program with all courses taught face-to-face and the program focuses on patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. The FSU NAP provides the academic coursework and clinical experiences necessary for students to be eligible to become CRNAs upon graduation from the program. Also, the FSU NAP is planning to transition to a doctorate program in the upcoming years per accreditation requirements.
