Job description

As a department in the Office for Institutional Diversity, the role of CARES is to employ a holistic approach to provide support services needed to ensure the academic success and personal development of underrepresented students. Job responsibilities include the following: counseling/advising underrepresented students on academic, professional, career and social development, individually and in groups; planning, executing and assisting with enrichment and engagement programs and workshops; assisting with recruitment and marketing activities; establishing partnerships with campus and community departments, programs and/or organizations to connect students to resources that promote their academic, career, or post graduate goals; collecting data, preparing reports and program evaluation.

Physical Requirements

Sitting, light lifting, and walking.


Day shift; some nights and weekends required.


Excellent verbal and written communication skills, knowledge of student development theories, advising, planning, organizing, project management, record keeping, efficient use of MicroSoft Office software and general computer skills, leadership skills, listening, attention to detail, report preparation.

Preferred Education/Experience

Degree in the following areas: Counseling, Higher Education, Student Services Administration, Social Work, Family Studies, or Psychology. Two (2) years of experience working in higher education, with an academic support program for underrepresented students, with focus on Hispanic/Latino students. Preferred candidate should be bilingual English and Spanish speaker.
