Dean of Humanities

Job description

Bergen Community College, the No. 1 institution in New Jersey for associate degree graduates four years in a row, serving a diverse student body on its suburban campus, has a leadership opportunity for a Dean of Humanities. The Dean plans and develops instructional goals for the Division of Humanities and leads department chairs, coordinators and faculty in the development, implementation and evaluation of new and existing curricula.  The Dean will assure that the College’s strategic objectives are met through robust assessment program and review practices.  In collaboration with chairs and faculty, the Dean will engage in continuous assessment of student success and learning outcomes. Additional responsibilities include recruitment, evaluation, reappointment of full-time faculty and staff; supervision of department heads, coordinators and staff; development and management of divisional budgets and facilities; grants development; incorporation of technology and distance learning into instruction; supervision of discipline areas in English, English as a Second Language, History, World Languages, Communications, and Philosophy and Religion.  This position reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Required Qualifications: Master’s degree required; Doctorate preferred.  Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education including 2 years of administrative experience as a department chair or higher, plus 2 years of college teaching in one of the disciplines listed above. Must have demonstrated leadership, communication skills and computer proficiency.  Experience in a community college and collective bargaining environment preferred.
