The research assistant will assist in the day to day activities of various motor learning and virtual reality research projects. Research projects include (but are not limited to) lab-based studies in which children, youth and young adults learn new motor tasks in virtual environments, online surveys of physical and occupational therapists use of virtual reality and video games, and hospital/clinic-based evaluation of newly developing VR tools. The research assistant will report to the principal investigator. He/she will be responsible for various tasks related to these projects, such as: data acquisition with children and families, data processing, development and implementation of IRB applications and recruitment strategies, participant database management, proofreading papers and grants, and training research students who volunteer in the laboratory. This position will also handle the coordination and completion of administrative tasks for the laboratory, e.g. scheduling lab meetings, undertaking computer inventory, etc.
Applicants require a bachelor’s degree plus 1-2 years of work experience. Applicants should be well organized and have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are required. Experience working with children is an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required. Experience programming with MATLAB is preferred.
