The University of Virginia, McIntire Department of Music invites applications for a non-tenure track position in Composition and Computer Technologies (CCT), beginning Fall 2018. This is a one-year position at the rank of Assistant Professor, General Faculty. The anticipated start date of the position is August 25, 2018.
Responsibilities include teaching courses in the Composition and Computer Technologies (CCT) program and participating in a vibrant and creative experimental music and sound art scene. This is a one-year position with a possibility for renewal.
The CCT program emphasizes the integration of acoustic and computer-based composition, considered as part of a diverse multimedia and interdisciplinary 21st Century field of art, design and music. We strive to build a unique climate of creative and technical research befitting a leading institution of higher education such as UVA. Recent CCT courses address subjects such as new interfaces for musical expression, intermedia composition, sound art and composition, sound synthesis and control, mobile interactive computer ensemble, audio engineering, producer as composer, sound studio, timbre, and ecoacoustics.
Applicants must possess a terminal degree (Ph.D., DMA or MFA) in music, sound art, audio engineering or a related field at the time of application, or furnish proof from the relevant registrar that all documentation required for the terminal degree has been submitted. Applicants must hold the terminal degree at the time of appointment. University teaching experience is desirable.
