Job description

The Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) at the University of Kentucky seeks to hire a Universal Design Consultant to advance the teaching and learning mission of the University of Kentucky. The successful candidate for this position will work collaboratively with instructors, academic units, and resource offices to improve face-to-face and online learning experiences for all students at the University, including but not limited to students with disabilities.

Working as a bridge between CELT, Academic Technologies and Faculty Engagement (ATFE), and the Disability Resource Center (DRC), the Universal Design Consultant will:
• identify teaching opportunities and challenges relating to accessibility, universal design, and technology adoption and use;
• hold consultations with faculty and staff on instructional design, pedagogy, and teaching strategies;
• design and facilitate dynamic workshops and other learning experiences for faculty and staff;
• serve on committees and other campus-wide initiatives to improve teaching and learning at the University of Kentucky;
• compose multimedia communications for a diverse audience of stakeholders at a large, research-intensive university campus.
• conduct instructional and pedagogical research on issues relating to universal design, accessibility, and (dis)ability;
• offer training and consultations on assistive technologies for students and faculty to make the learning environment more accessible.
• assist IT and other campus stakeholders to improve and ensure the accessibility of enterprise technologies and campus learning spaces.

Physical Requirements

Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds, or standing/walking for long periods of time. Position requires long hours of sitting and working on a computer.


Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm (40 hours/week)


Essential qualifications include: a demonstrated commitment to student-centered learning; excellent writing, communication and public speaking skills; the ability to work effectively on a team and across academic units; as well as a broad knowledge of the range of technological platforms and tools that can aid learning.

The successful applicant will assume a leadership role in envisioning how teaching and learning can be enhanced in both traditional and technology-enhanced environments at the University of Kentucky.

Preferred Education/Experience

Master's degree plus experience or background in the areas of Instructional Design & Universal Design for Learning, Disability Studies, Distance and Hybrid Learning, Education Teaching & Learning, Assistive Technology and Technology-Enhanced Learning
