The University of La Verne was founded by members of the Church of the Brethren, a small protestant denomination founded in 1708.While the University no longer has official ties to the Church of the Brethren, the University continues to be shaped by Brethren values of service, community, hospitality, social justice, peacemaking, and humility.The Church of the Brethren is one of the three historic peace churches, known for its commitment to pacifism.The University continues to honor and appreciate its pacifist roots, encouraging the community to ask difficult and enduring questions about peacemaking.

The Position
Reporting to the President and serving as a member of the University's Executive Cabinet, the Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Management (VPSEM) provides the strategic leadership and operational management to develop and implement a comprehensive enrollment management program that focuses on sustained, positive results in recruiting, enrolling, and graduating students.

The VPSEM oversees the undergraduate, graduate and Regional and Online Campuses (ROC) admission departments, the office of financial aid, La Verne Extended Learning, and manages the recruitment, training, supervision, and professional development and evaluation of division staff.

The VPSEM works closely with university constituencies to develop a comprehensive enrollment management plan. Specifically, the VPSEM collaborates closely with the Office of Strategic Communication (OSC) to implement and execute an integrated marketing and recruitment plan that supports the achievement of enrollment goals, with the potential for OSC to report directly to VPSEM.

The VPSEM will be expected to demonstrate the ability and desire to build internal relationships that will support the University's outreach efforts, in addition to representing the University to external communities, which will include the items listed below.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic enrollment management plan. Create and lead the strategic direction for the admissions department, developing long- and short-term strategies that ensure a diverse student population's access to and success at the University, while supporting the enrollment goals of the University.
  • Collaborate with other university divisions (e.g., college deans, department chairs, vice presidents) to achieve undergraduate, graduate, and adult student enrollment goals. Working collaboratively with the division's staff and university-wide constituents, the VPSEM is responsible for developing, tracking, and analyzing the progress of undergraduate, graduate, and adult student enrollment goals.
  • Oversee La Verne Extended Learning, the non-credit division to support and expand those operations.
  • Analyze data related to strategic directions; proactively assess the effectiveness of division activities in response to the University's mission and objectives; and provide leadership on policies, procedures, and regulations relevant to enrollment management best practices.
  • Build international recruitment and partnership programs that target international students both domestically and outside the U.S.
  • Serve as the primary analytical resource for units throughout the institution by producing routine, descriptive statistics comparing and contrasting enrollment trends over time, and developing predictive models for traditional and non-traditional populations across all campuses.
  • Provide students and their families the financial awareness and education necessary to successfully finance their educational pursuits.

    Qualifications
    A master's degree (terminal degree preferred) from a regionally accredited institution plus significant documented progressive experience in enrollment management operations and staff management will be expected of the vice president. Successful experience in higher education enrolling and matriculating a diverse student population, including budgetary and personnel responsibilities, strategic planning, data collection/analysis and program development; demonstrated experience with current best practices in enrollment management/admission processes; a record of visionary, collaborative, proactive, ethical, and dynamic leadership, resulting in meeting or exceeding enrollment targets; and substantial senior leadership experience demonstrating excellent interpersonal, communication, management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills will be expected of the vice president.
