The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a renewable, non-tenure track, Lecturer position in the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Geosciences beginning August 2018.


PhD in physics/astronomy or closely related discipline is desirable, a master’s degree being the minimum qualification for eligibility. Possess good communication skills and have recent experience teaching introductory physics/astronomy courses. Strong backgrounds in biophysics, astronomy or condensed matter physics is preferred. Ability to teach upper level courses and graduate courses, experience in curriculum development, mentoring experience, and research interests related to the department’s current faculty research areas will be considered as added strengths.


Teach four 3 credit courses per semester. Teach introductory courses in physics/astronomy, depending on the area of specialization. These courses include both lecturer and laboratory components. Depending on the department’s needs, opportunities may arise for teaching upper level or graduate courses for those interested. In addition to the teaching responsibilities, lecturers are required to contribute 20% of their time toward an additional component such as serve or research activities, in alignment with the department’s goals. Such activities might include mentoring of graduate teaching assistants, supervision of undergraduate research projects or redesign of courses.
