Job Summary


The Museum Public Programs and Education Curator leads, implements and manages a wide range of interdisciplinary curatorial, public and educational programs for MOAD that amplify connections between contemporary art, design and other fields. The position facilitates working collaborations with artists, designers, professionals, scholars, students, members of the broader community; conceptualizes and manages lectures, art labs, workshops performance programs; and occasionally curates special exhibitions. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Works closely with Executive Director/Chief Curator to formulate a strategic vision for MOAD's public and educational programs
  • Develops, implements and manages innovative and compelling public and educational programs
  • Develops and manages lectures, symposia, artist talks, performances and other programs including adult and children's classes
  • Leads and sustains a wide range of strategic partnerships including universities, outside Miami organizations, communities, groups and institutions local and beyond
  • Acts as a liaison for all Public Programs, Education and Research related partnerships
  • Assists with budget planning, adhering to program budget and maintaining accurate financial records
  • Supervises the hiring and management of personnel, docents and freelance education consultants for programs, including early education, upper level students, special needs and adult education
  • Researches and identifies funding opportunities for the public and educational program and participates in fundraising efforts including the preparation of funding applications
  • Develops and implements evaluation tools to analyze the outcomes of educational and public programs, formulate reports, evaluates program effectiveness and make recommendations
  • Oversees Museum tours, education interns and docent program
  • Coordinates registrations for all classes, camps and special programs
  • Curates special exhibitions as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements


  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Art, Art History, Art Education, Museum Studies or related field and two (2) years of experience in museum setting, management or equivalent or; Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Art, Art History, Art Education, Museum Studies or related field and six (6) years of experience in museum, management or equivalent experience
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of all arts-related formats including but not limited to dance, performance, music, architecture, design and urban studies
  • Ability to work with experts, curators, scholars from all fields in creating programs for the exhibitions
  • Excellent attention to detail; strong diplomatic and mediation skills
  • Excellent organization and communication (both oral and written) skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office software and specific computer programs related to area of responsibility
  • Knowledge and experience using websites, social media and other marketing outreach tools
  • Ability to have a global perspective and apply innovative approaches to interdisciplinary programming in a museum setting
  • Excellent program development and evaluation skills in Museum education
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a course, effectively present information and respond to art and education related questions from staff as well as the general public
  • Ability to define problems using independent judgment and critical thinking, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to display initiative, provide creative solutions, and utilize diplomatic skills with minimal supervision
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening, weekend and holiday assignments
