General Summary: The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for an Associate Vice President Student Affairs/Dean of Students. The Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students works closely with the Vice President for Student Affairs and serves as a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team to provide input into the overall direction of student affairs and other student services. The position supervises Residence Life, Multicultural Student Affairs, Orientation and Transition Programs, Student Conduct, and Student Life including Fraternities and Sororities, Recreational Sports, Student Leadership, and Veteran and Adult Programs. The position reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Job Duties & Responsibilities: The Associate Vice President Student Affairs/Dean of Students will:

  • Supervise professional staff and overall direction of Residence Life, Multicultural Student Affairs, Orientation and Transition Programs Student Conduct, and Student Life.
  • Provide leadership for the Student Affairs area on the Dahlonega Campus including leading campus based meetings, and answering questions, handling grievances, and addressing issues regarding campus delivery of services and programs
  • Serve as a Student Conduct Officer for student judicial cases.
  • Represent the Division of Student Affairs on university committees, ad hoc committees, task forces, and special initiatives
  • Serve as a Title IX Deputy/Investigator ensuring compliance with Title IX federal regulations
  • Serve as the chair of the Behavior Intervention Team for the Dahlonega and Blue Ridge campuses addressing students in crisis through appropriate and individualized intervention.
  • Support student retention efforts through facilitating the Hardship Withdrawal process and serving as case manager for student support cases involving family issues, health issues, etc.
  • Serve as the University representative and liaison with the Parent and Family Association
  • Attend and support student functions and events, including assisting with advising SGA; Active participant in strategic planning, budget planning, and innovation efforts for the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Day to day job responsibilities require cell phone for frequent response to urgent UNG business at any time of the day or night.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must have knowledge of student development theory.
  • Must keep abreast of trends and issues in higher education, especially student affairs.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to supervise professional staff.

Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:
  • Master's Degree required. Doctoral Degree in student personnel, higher education, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Five Years of professional experience in Student Affairs, with at least two years of residence life experience.
  • Must be able to commute to multiple campuses for meetings and supervisory responsibilities.
