The Department of Orthopaedics Duke University, Division of Hand Surgery is looking for an experienced Physician Assistant to join our growing practice.
We are seeking a PA with three to five years' experience treating patients with Orthopaedic hand problems in an independent practice is highly desirable.

The PA provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for patients with permanent and progressive damage to the hand. The PA will provide independent care to their clinic population. In addition they will provide support to our surgical patients by evaluating our post-operative patients at their first post-operative clinic visit.

The PA will assist the hand team in managing post-operative issues and concerns by email, secure messaging, clinic visits and telephone after discharge from the hospital.

The PA will provide patient/family/caretaker education for outpatient clinical services. The PA will facilitate collaborations with interdisciplinary team members as needed to include other orthopaedic surgeons, clinic staff, OT and participate in research projects. Our PA's educate other PA students who rotate on the service.

Ability to perform non-operative Orthopaedic procedures, including injections, aspirations, splinting, casting and simple reductions is required. The ability to order and read your own x-rays is required although all radiology studies are over read by the radiology department. The ability to provide education concerning care and treatment of Orthopaedic conditions to patients/families/caretakers is essential.

Ability to work effectively with orthopaedic surgeons and other health team members to meet comprehensive needs of patients is a must. The PA candidate needs to have the ability to practice independently and to communicate closely and knowledgeably with physicians and staff.

Demonstrated skill in taking patient history, performing independent patient assessment, and developing a plan of care based on sound medical judgment is required.

Education

Work requires a bachelor's degree in Health Science and a Physician Assistant Certificate of Registration with the North Carolina Medical Board or be certification eligible, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
