Primary Function of Organization Unit: The North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service provides our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and the NC A&T State University through educational programs, publications, and events. Cooperative extension professionals deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens.
Essential Job Duties: The Prestage Department of Poultry Science and the NC Cooperative Extension Service at North Carolina State University are well respected leaders in providing experiential learning to North Carolina citizens in agriculture, animal and poultry sciences, and youth development. The Poultry Science Extension Associate is responsible for planning, developing, executing, evaluating, and reporting the impacts of quality, poultry based, youth educational and training programs. Other essential duties include but are not limited to: * Develop a departmental poultry Extension program directed to 4-H and youth education and activities; * Develop web-based materials in poultry science related to youth programming; * Train county agents and volunteers in the delivery of educational programs and conduct training activities at district and state leadership conferences and other venues where appropriate; * Seek program operating funds through grants, sponsorships, or other funding sources; * Assist with poultry science student internship programs in the poultry industry; * Assist with departmental student recruitment programs. This position will work collaboratively with poultry departmental and Extension county faculty and staff as well as poultry industry personnel, state agencies, clientele groups, and volunteers in developing and delivering quality youth educational and training programs. The Poultry Science Extension Associate will be housed in the Prestage Department of Poultry Science, will be supervised by the Prestage Department of Poultry Science Departmental Extension Leader, and will be accountable to the Department Head.
Minimum Education/Experience: * Master's degree in poultry science or related field (such as animal science). * 1-3 years of experience in Extension or education-related or industry-related experience in a relevant field (such as poultry or livestock production). * Candidates with Master's degree in Education with minors in poultry science or animal science with strong production and educational experiences will also be considered.
Department Required Skills: * Ability to identify work priorities and handle multiple work demands. * Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. * Ability to plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate poultry science related educational programs. * Demonstrate excellent public and interpersonal communication skills. * Demonstrate a high level of subject matter competency and attentive to new and trending developments in matters related to youth education and poultry science and production.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * PhD in poultry science or related field (such as animal science).
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: * A valid driver's license is required for travel due to the need to conduct field work and work collaboratively with the Extension agents and offices throughout the counties of North Carolina. NC Driver's License required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
