Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Department of Agricultural and Human Sciences educates students in agricultural and human sciences, finds solutions to problems, and extends knowledge to create healthy communities for youth and families. We do this through academic programs in agricultural and extension education and youth, family, and community sciences that are offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Essential Job Duties: The Research Associate will independently support, develop, design, and/or execute moderately complex research activities in the Department for a single or possible multiple research projects. This position reviews progress and evaluates results, formulates research methods and suggests options for improving quality, identifies potential problems, recommends and implements solutions, and coordinates data collection and screening and verification of data. Primary responsibilities include performing research on topics in personal financial management and economics including but not limited to food insecurity, health, financial capability and related policies. Duties will include, but are not be limited to: * Develop and manage the application for Institutional Review Board approval. * Conduct field research, and compile and analyze the data. * Managing research operations including collaborating with staff of other programs to advance Unit's research. * Develop and manage data organization, storage, and back-up. * Analyze data, write scientific publications, give oral and poster presentations. * Conduct literature searches and summarize findings. * Write reports and papers describing the results of Unit's research. * Manage development and/or provide oversight to development of online research programs. * Coordinate the development of survey instruments for paper or online deployment.

Minimum Education/Experience: * Master's degree in Social Sciences, Economics, Sociology, Social Work, or related field (for candidates demonstrating comparable research productivity).

Department Required Skills: Demonstrated success and proficiency in the areas of research, collaboration, and communication, as outlined below. Research: * Peer-reviewed publication process. * Collaboration and team work with internal and external partners to advance research goals to include participant and focus group identification. * Proficiency with statistical processing software and strong data analysis skills, preferably SPSS. * Ability to search, read, and interpret scientific literature pertinent to the job. * Demonstrated ability to contribute to manuscript preparation. * Report and academic writing. * A commitment to diversity and pluralism. Communication: * Proficient in verbal and written communication. * Experience in MacIntosh operating system, Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Social Sciences research focusing on low-resource audiences. * Expert command of SPSS statistical processing software. * Experience in data entering, record keeping, codebook development, and statistical analysis. * Experience with both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and software. * Experience managing website vendors for dissemination of research and program results.

Necessary Licenses and Certifications: * A valid drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
