Position Summary

Applications are invited for a Research Associate (postdoctoral) position at Michigan State University working with Profs. Laura Chomiuk and Jay Strader on X-ray and optical observations of compact binaries.

This group has active multi-wavelength programs to investigate black holes and neutron stars in both globular clusters and the field of the Milky Way and external galaxies. Our observational effort spans the range of radio, optical, X-ray, and gamma-ray wavelengths, and Michigan State has guaranteed access to the SOAR 4-m telescope in Chile. The successful candidate will likely focus on X-ray and/or optical studies of compact binaries, though candidates with experience at other wavelengths are welcome to apply.

The initial appointment will be for one year and will be renewable for at least two additional years dependent on performance and funding.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Astronomy, Physics or a related subject

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in astronomy, physics, or a related subject by the appointment start in summer or fall of 2018.
