Job description

Teacher Education:  Coordinator of Advising with primary responsibilities in academic advising for students interested in any of the 22 majors in the areas of Early, Middle, Adolescent & Young Adult, and Foreign Language Teacher Licensures; 12-month position.

  • Advise students in Academic and Career goals. 
  • Discuss specific plans of study, analyze transcripts of previous coursework.
  • Explore ways to accomplish career goals related to licensure in early, middle, adolescent & young adult education, and foreign language, and chart student plans of study.
  • Create and maintain detailed plans of study and “road maps” for all 22 majors in EDT.
  • Be continuously aware of academic changes at Miami University, in EDT, including modifications required by the Ohio Department of Education.
  • Notify EDT faculty of changes that have occurred or are expected to occur.Assist in recruitment efforts of the Admissions office by meeting with visiting high school students and their parents, with prospective students from diverse backgrounds, with prospective transfer students, as well as with accepted, but not confirmed, students. 
  • Participate in recruitment, admission, and new student activities. Support department goals for diversifying the teaching pool in implementation of new initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between EDT and regional campus students, faculty, and advisors.
  • Participate in advising activities on regional campuses (must be willing to travel between campuses).
  • Serve as a liaison between EDT and other departments/divisions within the University, as requested, especially explaining our requirements to departments that have courses required in our programs.
  • Work with other departments to serve students with double majors.Represent EDT and advise in orientation programs for incoming first-year students, transfer students, and international students.Utilize DARS (Degree Audit Report System), Banner, and SSC-Campus (Advising calendar and note-taking platform) to review, create and maintain files for undergraduates to record and track students’ progress toward degree requirements.
  • May teach first year experience course each semester.

Require:  Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Affairs, or education related field;

1-3 or more years of advising experience (including experience gained during an educational program) in a university or college setting in academic, career, study abroad and/or related areas;

Excellent written and oral communication (including public speaking), organizational, technological, and collaborative skills. 

Desire:  Teacher licensure (current or previous) with 1-3 years K-12 teaching experience.
