Coordinator, Records and Teacher Certification
Maintain and supervise academic record keeping and processing functions for teacher certification. Monitor and maintain university compliance with Michigan and national requirements for teacher certification.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Advise prospective post-bachelor's students on certification options and University admissions process. Review applications and make admissions recommendations for post-baccalaureate teacher certification and MAT students.
Advise students, teachers, faculty, staff, and advisors concerning certification and degree requirements.
Evaluate transcripts and write programs of study for post-baccalaureate, students. Work with faculty for program of study approvals.
Audit programs of study, verify eligibility of post-bachelor's candidates for certification, utilize computer program to post eligibility for certificates and endorsements on EMU transcripts, and make certification recommendations to the Michigan Department of Education.
Process Temporary, Continuing and Full Approval of special education personnel for the Michigan Department of Education.
Supervise records maintenance for the University and as required by the Michigan Department of Education.
Monitor work done by clerical support staff.
Assist Associate Dean and other University staff and faculty with national teacher certification accreditation requirements.
Serve as liaison to other University departments and to the Michigan Department of Education. Assist Associate Dean with certification officer duties.
Attend Michigan Department of Education meetings four times a year.
Perform related Departmental duties, as required.Qualifications
Knowledge of academic advising, educational design, certification rules and data processing is required.
Completion of a Master's degree in Counseling or a related field is required.
At least two years of experience working with policies, rules and regulations involving licensure and endorsements for teacher certification is required.
A minimum of two years' work experience as an Academic Advisor is required.
Teaching experience is desirable.
