This individual will be responsible for, under the direction of the Director of Equity and Access, (1) ensuring the organization's compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and state civil rights statutes regarding discrimination and harassment based on disability; (2) implementing prevention efforts to avoid violations of Section 504, the ADA, and related state statutes; and (3) overseeing the organization's incident management program related to complaints or reports of noncompliance with Section 504 and the ADA, including based on allegations of disability discrimination and/or harassment. This position currently has no direct reports, but will work closely with Adtalem Legal, Human Resources, Regulatory Affairs, and institutional leaders to ensure successful and effective program development and implementation.

  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements under Section 504, the ADA, and related state statutes, in addition to expertise in electronic and information technology guidelines, including WCAG 2.0, and relevant compliance standards..
  • Implements and oversees all aspects of a best practice organization-wide Section 504 and ADA compliance program, including web and technical accessibility.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of Section 504- and ADA-related policies, procedures, and guidelines to drive consistency across the organization.
  • Manages efforts to develop standardized Section 504 and ADA incident management practices to help ensure compliance with Section 504 and ADA requirements.
  • Develops and delivers Section 504 and ADA training and communications across the organization, including Adtalem colleagues, students and third parties.
  • Collaborates closely with institutional management to ensure program is adopted and implemented consistently across the organization.
  • Collaborates with various Adtalem stakeholders, including Legal, Human Resources, and Regulatory Affairs to ensure the Section 504 and ADA programs align with other organization-wide compliance activities.
  • Provides guidance and advice across the organization with regard to the Section 504 and ADA program.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 5 years of broad education compliance experience, preferably in Section 504 and ADA coordinator and/or student affairs roles.
  • The incumbent must possess not only in-depth technical know-how, but also a proven track record of driving the successful development and implementation of organization-wide compliance programs.
  • The incumbent must possess superior leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • The incumbent will be expected to “hit the ground running,” and must be a self-starter, a solution-finder, and a forward-thinker.
  • The incumbent will interact with all levels of management, and, as such, must possess superior communication skills (both written and oral), professionalism, diplomacy, and “active” listening skills.

  • Other required skills include organizing resources and establishing priorities; ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports; use of personal computers and related software applications; ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
