Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree is preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
One (1) to three (3) years of experience working with underprepared students and in a college/university setting preferred. Seven (7) or more years of experience is required for the senior level title. Experience working with students with learning disabilities or special education teacher certification preferred. Working knowledge of NCAA academic regulations also preferred.

Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director of Academic Services, the Learning Specialist will provide intensive academic support to an assigned group of identified student athletes, some of whom may have diagnosed or undiagnosed disabilities or disorders which impact their academic performance (LD or ADD). The Learning Specialist works with students one-on-one and in small groups and assists with skill development by teaching study skills and promoting skill development within the content areas of the student's courses. The Learning Specialist will also assess and evaluate the student's academic needs to determine the necessity for additional academic support.
This position may also provide additional academic support services to student-athletes in the form of academic advising, the monitoring of academic performance and class attendance, and eligibility monitoring. These academic advising duties would include coordinating the preparation and implementation of individualized academic plans which includes mentoring, tutoring, study hall, and skill development. In the academic advising role, the individual would also communicate regularly with coaches and administrators and be available to meet with prospective student athletes and their families on recruiting visits as needed.
Additionally, the candidate will be asked to perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director of Academic Services and must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evening and weekends. Specific academic staff title level and sport assignment(s) will be assigned upon hire.

This is a 100% Academic Staff appointment. Salary will be assigned within the appropriate range, commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.
