The Department of Surgery at the University of Virginia is seeking an Abdominal Organ Transplant Surgeon to join our Faculty in the Division of Transplantation. Rank and compensation will depend upon qualifications. This tenure-ineligible or tenure eligible position will be responsible for on call availability for surgical procurement of solid organs for human transplantation, including travel to outlying hospitals for procurement and safe transportation of organs to UVa; performing living donor organ retrieval; performing implantation of solid organs using open and robotic approaches; providing surgical management of pre- and post-transplant recipients; providing surgical care in general surgery cases on transplant recipients or non-transplant patients needing the expertise of a transplant surgeon; as well as providing assistance with human pancreatic islet transplantations.
Qualified candidates must have a MD or equivalent, have completed both general surgery residency program and transplant fellowship, and currently have or be eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must meet UNOS requirements for primary living donor surgeon in either liver or kidney donation. Experience in laparoscopic, robotic assisted surgery is desirable and previous work experience in pancreatic islet transplantation a plus.
