The Assistant Director for Leadership Development is responsible for the leadership and management of staff and activities pertaining to leadership development, advising, scholarships, and recognition programs. Serves as a member of the department's strategic team of directors, participating in outcomes-based thinking, visioning, and planning. Assists in developing and maintaining partnerships throughout the University and greater Tallahassee community in order to attain departmental goals and objectives.
Guide content and assist in the direction of our leadership development initiatives. Supervise two full-time A&P Student Program Coordinators responsible for leadership development and scholarships/ recognition programs.
Direct and coordinate the Center’s student advising efforts. Provide on-going training and support for colleagues serving as Center Advisors. Assess, evaluate, and enhance the program for effectiveness.
Serve on department, division, and campus-wide committees and develop collaborative partnerships throughout the University and greater Tallahassee community to assist in attaining departmental mission and vision.
Conduct research and teaching as appropriate for projects or initiatives within the scope of this position. Initiate and support innovative ideas to move the Center for Leadership & Social Change forward along with other duties as assigned.


Bachelor's degree and four years of experience in program planning, student advising, leadership development, social justice education, and/or related experience within a college setting or the equivalent, or a combination of post high school education and related experience equal to 8 years.
Demonstrated knowledge of current leadership and identity development theories.
Relevant experience in social justice and leadership education.
Efficient interpersonal skills, organization skills, and writing skills.
Demonstrated ability to work flexible schedules and work interdependently as a team member.
Experience working in the areas of leadership, identity, and advocacy.


A Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field from an accredited university.
Two years post-Master's experience working with theories related to leadership development, social justice education, community engagement, and/or student advocacy.
Experience in supervising full-time professional staff and working effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Pay Plan

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.


Schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with some evening and weekend hours as needed.

Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
