About the Position
The Senior Associate Vice President (AVP) for the Department of University Personnel provides strategic leadership and vision for the development, implementation and ongoing assessment of all human resources and faculty affairs functions provided to University faculty and staff. The Senior AVP is charged with inspiring confidence and trust among faculty, administrators and staff while working to achieve operational goals and responsibilities. Core services include, but are not limited to benefits, payroll, workers' compensation, leaves of absence, recruitment, appointment, classification and compensation, promotion, tenure and sabbatical processes, training, performance management, on and off-boarding, HR information systems, compliance, employee conduct oversight, and labor relations within the collective bargaining environment.
This position requires adherence to University compliance training such as: Conflict of Interest, AB1825 Sexual Harassment Prevention, Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention, and Information and Data Security. This position is required to file a Conflict of Interest Statement and a Statement of Economic Interests on an annual basis.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree and 7 years of progressively responsible Human Resources management experience, including 2-5 years managing faculty HR processes; experience in higher education; working knowledge of faculty and staff requirements; experience in a collective bargaining environment is required.
Master's, Juris Doctorate or other Advanced Degree; experience managing combined Human Resources/Faculty Affairs functions in a higher education environment; and California State University experience is preferred.

-Thorough knowledge of University policies, CSU policies, collective bargaining agreements and state and federal laws
-Knowledge of Human Resources best practices from inception through implementation and oversight, including practices primarily affecting faculty
-Knowledge of budget formulation and management
-Outstanding professional management and communication skills
-Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with faculty, staff and administrators
-Demonstrated ability to direct the work of others and coordinate efforts of cross-functional teams
-Demonstrated ability to assess and implement necessary structural changes
-Demonstrated ability to develop and implement complex projects in support University objectives
-Ability to interpret University policies, CSU policies, collective bargaining agreements and state and federal laws
-Ability to develop and implement strategic direction
-Ability to make budgetary projections
-Ability to present information and respond to questions from campus stakeholders
-Ability to lead effective organizational change through creative problem solving
