About the Position

Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President for University Personnel or designee, and receiving work direction from appropriate administrators/managers within University Personnel, the incumbent oversees the retention, tenure, and promotion processes for tenured and tenure-track faculty. The incumbent works independently with sensitive and confidential data and is responsible for communication with faculty members, department chairs and the Office of the Provost related to these processes. In addition, the incumbent provides data to University Personnel (UP) Management related to the RTP process and to grievances. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring CBA and policy adherence and directs policy interpretation questions to UP management.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree or professional training program (or equivalent work experience) specific to the position and directly related work experience, or a combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position AND three years of administrative work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree; Experience in higher education; Experience working with faculty processes; Experience working with retention, tenure and promotion processes for faculty

-Thorough knowledge of English grammar, business writing, punctuation, spelling.
-Knowledge of university policies and provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement that apply to RTP.
-Knowledge of Academic Affairs structure and operations as related to RTP.
-Knowledge of faculty retention, tenure and promotion processes and procedures.
-Knowledge of software applications including word processing, spreadsheet, and database management.
-Excellent customer service skills.
-Excellent oral and written communications skills with a diplomatic demeanor and client empathy to provide service to faculty, staff, administrators, and the general public.
-Strong organizational skills.
-Strong analytical skills.

-Ability to provide consultation to the campus in the areas of faculty personnel matters.
-Ability to set own priorities, perform consistently, organize and plan work and projects; make decisions independently and complete duties accurately with little or no supervision.
-Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment, and handle multiple work priorities.
-Ability to quickly learn and apply a variety of state, federal, CSU, and SJSU policies and procedures.
