About the Position
***This is a Temporary Two(2) Year Appointment***
The California State University system is currently transitioning away from their existing model of developmental education. San Jos State University is committed to addressing the challenge posed by this transition by designing, implementing, studying, documenting, and maintaining high-quality programs for the students enrolled in mathematics courses who most need support.
This position will support faculty in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics in this transition, including designing curriculum, evaluating its effectiveness, and publishing significant results.
Education and Experience
A bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and four years of administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
-PhD in Mathematics or Mathematics Education
-Demonstrated understanding of the needs of developmental, and non-math major, mathematics students
-Demonstrated knowledge of mathematics education literature and research methods in mathematics education, as evidenced by scholarly publications
-Demonstrated understanding of, and desire to work with under-served and under-represented populations
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
-Extensive understanding of the needs of developmental, and non-math major, mathematics students.

-Understanding of, and desire to work with under-served and under-represented populations.
-Extensive and in-depth knowledge in project management including research and analytical methodologies.
-Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned.

-Ability to understand and analyze complex problems from a future-oriented and broad interactive perspective and readily develop proactive solutions that integrate strategic goals into tactical operations.
-Ability to effectively use applicable information systems and applications in analysis, research, and reporting activities and projects.
-Ability to effectively communicate with and influence high-level and diverse contacts inside and outside of the CSU system.
-Ability to effectively use all communication methods and formats and to use expertise, as well as persuasion and negotiation skills, to build consensus to achieve short- and long-term goals and objectives.
-Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas.
-Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements.
