About the Position

**This is an evening shift position.**

Performs duties under general supervision but works independently to plan, schedule, coordinate and maintain technology support to the SJSU campus. Assists faculty, students, and staff requesting equipment, provide routine classroom technology support and equipment maintenance activities for the Department of Instructional & Meeting Spaces. Organize and perform classroom equipment installations and advanced troubleshooting of classroom systems. Maintain documentation and inventory of installed technology.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Audio/Visual Operation & Maintenance:
Test and ensure equipment is in operable condition prior to delivery or distribution. Maintain compliance with security and safety standards of all equipment. Develop and conduct preventative maintenance and cleaning of equipment.

Develop and provide user documentation and user guides for audio/visual equipment. Provide support and training to faculty, staff, and students in the areas of applications software and audio/visual hardware. Update documentation to educate and assist the end user in understanding and effectively using resources.

Classroom Technology Operation &Maintenance
Assist faculty on operation of Smart, Enhanced and Next Generation Classrooms. Provide hand-on in class support as needed by faculty teaching in these spaces. Actions include testing and replacing cabling and components, advising faculty on computer configurations, and developing on-the spot solutions to unique faculty needs.

Troubleshoot audio/visual and computer problems and provide maintenance support. Actions include major component testing and replacement, room reconfiguration, and determining and implementing alternate solutions to keep the classroom in operation.

Technology Research, Maintenance and Installation:
Recommend and provide technical advice and expertise to the department administration to enhance the services provided by Academic Technology.

Research and provide technical advice in the evaluation, purchase, upgrading, and maintenance of hardware resources.

Troubleshoot checkout and classroom technology issues, research and identify solutions, make equipment repairs.

Use iSupport to distribute tickets to staff for maintenance and installation work. Make minor repairs to and assist in installation of classroom technology.
Customer Service and Support:
Provide customer service to faculty, staff and students by scheduling, distributing, and checking out equipment and media. Provide walk-in, phone reservations and over the counter services to customers checking out or dropping off equipment.

Assist faculty on operation of Smart, Enhanced and Next Generation Classrooms. Provide hand-on in class support as needed by faculty teaching in these spaces.
Data Administration and Support
Utilize computer based databases and ensure that data sources are accurate and readily accessible to the user community.

Maintain assigned databases using database management packages/systems.

Develop data policies, procedures and standards.

Education and Experience

- Skill in database management, process and documentation.
- Strong oral communication skills and excellent customer service and public relations skills. Working knowledge of methods, procedures and practices; English grammar, business writing, punctuation and spelling. Ability to handle multiple work priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience troubleshooting video and audio systems.

Experience with SP Controls, Crestron and Vyopta control software; LCD Projectors; HDTV monitors; and troubleshooting of Macintosh and Windows Operating Systems.

Experience in database management, process and documentation.

Hands-on experience with AV equipment repair.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Knowledge of operation of a wide range of video and audio systems, audio monitoring equipment, and related instructional communications technology.
- Ability to identify and determine cause of equipment problems and advise end users and make necessary modifications to the equipment.
- Ability to diagnose equipment and systems problems and develop solutions. Perform basic repairs and assist in installations.
- Knowledge of library database systems and ability to catalogue equipment in database.
- Knowledge of a broad range of instructional audio/visual techniques and needs of a campus community.
- Working knowledge with some or all of the following: SmartBoard hardware and software; SP Controls, Crestron and Vyopta control software; LCD Projectors; HDTV monitors; and troubleshooting of Macintosh and Windows Operating Systems.
- Knowledge of the operation of a variety of audio/visual equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot the installed classroom technology and instruct faculty teaching in the technology driven classroom spaces.
- Skill in equipment installation, including wiring termination and use of test instruments.
- Ability to compose and appropriately format correspondence and reports generated from the information gathered through the Universitys ticketing system.
- Ability to research available products and systems and recommend alternatives to meet identified needs.
- Knowledge of equipment installation and maintenance practices.
- Working knowledge in AV equipment repair.
- Demonstrated ability to write clear technical instructions and documentation, and coordinate the work of other technical staff.
- Skill in database management, process and documentation.
- Strong oral communication skills and excellent customer service and public relations skills. Working knowledge of methods, procedures and practices; English grammar, business writing, punctuation and spelling. Ability to handle multiple work priorities.
