About the Position
The Assistant Director for Compliance provides complex administrative and office support functions for the Compliance Office. The Assistant Director for Compliance monitors all recruiting activities, playing/practice seasons, CARA verification, complimentary ticket distribution, camps/clinics, textbook program, and athletic staff personnel monitoring.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
1. Responsible for Monitoring and ensuring the Completion of:
-Compliance forms and logs
-Playing season/practice logs (CARA)
-Complimentary ticket requests (recruits and student-athletes)
-Recruiting logs (Contacts, Evaluations, Phone Calls, etc.)
-Reconciling recruiting reimbursement expenses with Business Office
-Official/Unofficial Visit requests
-Annual NCAA Coaches Recruiting Exams
-Foreign Tour paperwork and requirements
2. Compliance Office Student Services:
-Lead on operating the textbook scholarship program, acting as liaison to the SJSU Bookstore
-Assist with Admissions Process including placement testing, orientation, Next Steps, and collection of transcripts
-Student Assistance Fund
3. Administrative Support:
-Data tally and entry for NCAA reports
-Staff outside income and declarations
-Create and maintain student-athlete files
Education and Experience
Completion of a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with three years of related office work experience.
-Minimum of two years of experience in NCAA D-I Compliance
-Experience with online compliance software (Jump Forward and NCAA applications preferred)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
-Knowledge of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and NCAA Clearing House policies and processes.
-Strong organizational, written and oral skills required.
-Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of the university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
-Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures independently, and use judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist.
-Ability to conduct meetings, establish record keeping protocol and organize record keeping protocol.
-Expertise in using office software packages (Microsoft Word and Excel), technology, and systems.
-Ability to analyze operational and procedural problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions.
-Demonstrated knowledge of student development theories relevant to a metropolitan university and demonstrated sensitivity and understanding of the needs of SJSUs diverse student body.
-Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications with students, employees and external agencies.
-Demonstrated ability to mediate conflicts and provide dispute resolution in a fair and objective manner.
-Demonstrated ability to interpret technical procedures or regulations as well as CSU and university policies and procedures.
-Demonstrated ability to establish positive working relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and staff.
-Ability to communicate effectively NCAA rules and regulations governing recruiting, amateurism, awards and benefits, playing and practice seasons, eligibility, and sports camps and clinics.
-Ability to use negotiation and persuasion skills to achieve results and expedite projects.
-Demonstrated ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
