About the Position
The Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship supports the San Jose State University Library's mission and goals by providing high-level leadership in developing and enhancing library operations. The Associate Dean must work successfully with faculty, staff, students, and other administrators to articulate and implement the Library's mission, vision, and philosophy. The Associate Dean exhibits solid management skills, effectiveness in resource management, and the ability to build partnerships within the University, throughout the California State University system and with the San Jose Public Library community. The Associate Dean exhibits a clear understanding of California and national trends in education, with emphasis on management of library service operations and library collections.
The Associate Dean serves on the Dean's Senior Management Team and serves as Administrator in Charge in the Dean's absence. The Associate Dean works with the Dean, the Associate Dean of Technology and Information Services, and the Library's Director of Operations & Administrative Services, and supervises the Library Faculty Group, Research Services, Collection Development, Interlibrary Loan Services, Information Literacy & Assessment, Special Collections and Archives, Scholarly Communications, and the Africana, Asian American, Chicano, and Native American Studies Center (AAACNA). The Associate Dean is committed to deeply infusing the value of diversity and inclusive excellence.
The Associate Dean collaborates with the San Jose Public Library (SJPL) to implement a collaborative vision and to effectively offer quality services and resources to both the University and the broader San Jose community. This position works in close partnership with SJPL management to coordinate services and operations within the merged Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library (King Library). The Associate Dean manages employees within a collective bargaining environment.
Education and Experience
1) A Master's degree from an ALA accredited library/and or information science program
2) Five years of administrative experience in an academic library
3) Experience supervising professional/faculty ranked librarians
4) Demonstrated experience effectively utilizing office management and library enterprise systems.
5) Demonstrated experience working as part of a diverse team
6) Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
7) Record of scholarly, professional, or creative achievement in the field of library science or higher education
8) Demonstrated experience developing partnerships with external organizations, the community, and campus
2) Administrative experience in a university library
3) Progressive administrative experience in an academic library
4) Demonstrated ability to successfully lead change
5) Demonstrated ability to do statistical modeling, regression, and prediction
6) Demonstrated knowledge of multiple research methodologies and their application in the assessment of library resources and services

-Ability and commitment to successfully collaborate across organizational boundaries and lead self-directed teams of tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure track librarians.
-Ability to lead in a shared governance and collective bargaining environment.
-Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.
