About the Position
Under general Supervision, this position is responsible for performing the full range of skilled journey-level locksmith work. Locksmith responsibility includes installation, repair, remodel and maintenance of manual and automated locks, to ensure a clean, safe and attractive learning environment. Position makes decisions based upon sound maintenance practice.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Repairs and installs locks, security devices, access control equipment, and associated parts.
-Performs various types of preventive maintenance and repairs to include: doors, door hardware, closers, strikes and latches, general cleaning, lubricating, removing/installing serviceable parts, adjustments, identifying problems and needed repairs.
-Performs key cutting, pining, lock changes.
-Performs badging, key card programming, repairs, and troubleshooting of electric locks, strikes, door contacts, readers and REX.
-Uses hand/power tools for the completion of lock, access devices, key creation, and door security related repairs.
-Inspects locks, access devices, related equipment, systems, and areas to identify problems and needed repairs.
-Unlocks and secures facility areas.
-Tests and troubleshoots parts, equipment and systems using testing tools for diagnosis.
-Records work details in log sheets and keeps time records to assists in completion of documentation.
-Provides counter service for staff and students for processing key requests.
-Operates computer for documenting and researching locks, parts, specifications and associated equipment.
-Operates radio or cellular phone for communication of urgent needs, critical information and status updates.
-Operates utility carts and pickup truck for the transport of , tools, supplies, equipment and work debris from job site.
-Disables and clearly identifies unsafe equipment, and immediately notifies appropriate Supervisor or Administrator.
-Reports problems and needed repairs to supervisor or appropriate administrator immediately to be documented and placed on schedule for repairs.
-Consults and works with other trade workers, as needed, for completion of repairs and remodels.
-Responds promptly to, and assists with urgent needs in order to prevent property loss, injury, damage, or further incident.
-Maintains clean work areas, tools, equipment and associated structures.
-Uses protective equipment, as required, for personal safety.
Education and Experience
-Progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a locksmiths apprenticeship program.
-Must possess applicable certification for locksmith work.
-Must participate in all OSHA required physicals and examinations.
-A valid California Drivers license is required at time of hire for the operation of any vehicle required for this position.
-Must be able to complete the Defensive Driver Training Program provided by the State of California for CSU campuses.
-Work schedule varies according to operational needs and may include evening and weekend hours.
-Experience on a large college campus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
-Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the locksmith trade, including complex access and control systems.
-Thorough knowledge of all types of locks, fastening devices and related hardware.
-Working knowledge of electrical locking and security systems and devices.
-Thorough knowledge of applicable state codes pertaining to the locksmith trade including those related to fire exits, door hardware and fastening devices.
-Ability to perform journey-level locksmith work.
-Ability to use features of applicable access control systems.
-Ability to read, interpret and work from shop blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications.
-Ability to maintain computerized inventory and master locking systems records and to prepare standard reports.
-Ability to provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants.
-Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the position, and to perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.
-Possession of valid California Drivers License is required at time of hire for the operation of any vehicle required for this position.
-Must be able to successfully complete the Defensive Driver Training Program provided by the State of California for CSU campuses and pass the course exam.
-Must be able to accommodate a work schedule that varies according to operational needs and may include evening and weekend hours.
