The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Virginia's School of Engineering and Applied Science seeks candidates for a Research Engineer who can work on designing and implementing infrastructure that will help scientists containerize, preserve and re-run data and model software. The incumbent will manage and implement projects, which include unified authorization system, a fully automated container management system using in-house code and Docker and distributed storage for authoritative data. The selected candidate will also develop software, document and adhere to SE practices, work with students, postdocs and collaborators, publish and write. Some travel will be required.
Applicants must have a bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field with exceptional competence in software lifecycle from source code to a working deployed instance and superior operating system knowledge credentials. Preference will be given to candidates with a Masters degree with experience working in collaborative teams and knowledge of Python. Qualified applicants must also have solid experience in C/C++, developing Linux tools, drivers, and/or fault tolerant distributed systems, with database technologies ((NoSQL (Neo4J, ElasticSearch), LevelDB, Postgres), building and developing platform and APIs with service-oriented architecture, experience with Git, AWS and sound understanding of version control systems and excited about working in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary science project.
