Occupational Summary
The Medical Physics Resident is a clinical training position for those who have obtained proper graduate degrees in medical physics. The minimum length of the training program is 2 years, ranging from 2-4 years dependent on the design for the clinical research components. The clinical training is divided into eight three-month-long rotations over the two years of residency. One supervisor is assigned to oversee the progress for each rotation. The resident will perform clinical duties under one or two supervisors for each rotation.
Work Performed
Some of these duties include: application of imaging technology and requires sophisticated medical physics training to perform research and new technology implementation in image-guided radiation therapy. The position also involves, working under a qualified medical physicist,performance of quality assurance for advanced patient treatment's, which requires solid medical physics training. The resident is responsible to perform medical physics duties assigned by appointed supervisors indifferent rotations. The resident will need to work flexible hours involving evening and weekend.

The performance of each resident is evaluated for each rotation. The evaluation is conducted by the Residency Program Committee and the rotation supervisor, which consist of reviewing the training record of the whole rotation, examining each training objective, reviewing of the Rotation Reports submitted by the resident, and at least one session of oral exam for each rotation. A pass evaluation should be achieved by every resident as judged by the examining staff physicists. The committee can also decide to change the course of future training based on the evaluation of the past training record, including the option of early termination of the residency.As a member of our Medical Physics Residency Program, the director and the associate directors of the Radiation Physics Residency Program will supervise and oversee the resident's activities of all rotations. The resident will meet with them on a monthly basis.

Education

MS or PhD degree from a CAMPEP-certificated medical physics graduateprogram or CAMPEP-certificated Medical Physics Certification programsfor those with PhDs in other related fields.
