Duties: The Detective Supervisor provides daily supervision of UPPD Detectives. Plans daily work assignments, reviews daily summary sheets and submits monthly and weekly reports as required. Supervises criminal investigations including processing of crime scenes and the preservation and collection of evidence; reviews probable cause for arrest and search warrants. Responsible for completing annual performance evaluations on assigned personnel. Schedules personnel for mandatory training such as MPO, first aid and firearms training. Supervises security details for VIPs in and around the UPPD patrol zone; analyzes crime patterns in and around the patrol zone. Serves as liaison with the District Attorney's office, the Philadelphia Police Department, the FBI, the Secret Service, the State's Attorney's Office and the Department of Homeland Security, as well as other law enforcement agencies. Investigates complaints against police and conducts internal investigations as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: A High School Diploma or GED and 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A minimum of 2 years supervisory experience is required. Must have experience within the UPPD and must be familiar with PARS and PIIN systems.
Demonstrated skill in dealing with bureaucratic protocol at all levels of the DPS, University organizations and external agencies. Candidates must have the ability to work in a fast- paced environment; ability to problem solve, think strategically and to comfortably work through crisis situations; be flexible and agile in meeting demands of unexpected events and crisis. Possess excellent verbal, writing and interpersonal skills. Must have a valid driver's license. This position is classified as essential personnel (24 hours/7 days), which may require weekend assignments and holiday assignments. Must be willing to rotate shifts, be on-call and work weekends as assigned.
Must successfully pass a criminal background check and must sign a confidentiality statement.
