GENOMIC DATA COORDINATOR
Duties: The Genomic Data Coordinator will provide support for managing and analyzing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data generated by the Bonasio Lab as they research the epigenetic mechanisms that regulate genome function. These datasets will include ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, CLIP-seq, ATAC-seq, and HiC, which, respectively, analyze chromatin binding, gene expression, protein-RNA interactions, chromatin opening, and the 3D structure of the genome. Responsibilities will include managing and polishing the raw data generated by next generation sequencing, aligning reads to reference genomes and annotations, generating genome browser tracks and providing them to the experimental scientist to visualize the results of their experiment, and generating tables of genes or genomic regions affected by treatment and genetic manipulations. Additional and more sophisticated analyses will be designed and implemented as needed by the particular experiment and based on the successful candidate's skills and interests. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with major in Computer Science, Biology or related field and 1-2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. The successful candidate will either be a Biologist/Biochemist with computational and coding skills or a Computer Scientist with an intermediate to advanced understanding of molecular biology and biochemistry. Experience with working in the Linux shell is absolutely required and previous knowledge of the R programming environment is strongly preferred. Knowledge of other relevant programming languages for the biosciences, such as Python, will also be considered.
