The University of Massachusetts Amherst Student Engagement and Leadership department is seeking a Director of the Student Union Craft Center to direct the fiscal, administrative, and programmatic operations of the Craft Center and to indirectly oversee the Student Union Art Gallery, serving undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and staff of the Five Colleges (UMass, Hampshire, Amherst, Smith, Mount Holyoke).

Responsibilities include oversight of sixteen craft area coordinators and 2 graduate assistants in all aspects of daily operations, business management, craft instruction, health and safety, and programming as well as budget training, fundraising, and short and long-term planning. Duties require a Students First and customer focused approach to quality services within a student and organizational development model in a diverse and multicultural college community. The Director of Student Union Craft Center works under the general supervision of the Executive Director Student Engagement and Leadership or designee.

Qualified candidates must possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, or related field plus two to three years teaching and supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and technical skill in several different crafts such as: ceramics, stained glass, silversmithing, photography, silkscreen, fibers, and sewing
  • Manual finger dexterity, precise eye and hand coordination, and ability to lift objects up to fifty pounds
  • Knowledge of and ability to teach first aid skills and use of hazardous materials and tools
  • Ability to use personal computer for Internet, email, word processing, data management

Master's degree in a related field is preferred. Position requires some night and weekend hours.

Hiring salary range is $40,173 - $50,434; (Normal starting salary range: $40,173 - $45,304) for this 43 week position, for 37.5 hours per week, plus benefits.
