osition Summary

As part of the University Web & Design management team, this position participates in strategic planning and decision-making, directing services and initiatives, determining organizational structure and allocating resources. The position directs the technology area within University Web & Design, as well as, the technology components of individual – often large and complex – projects. Responsibilities include organizational planning, project management, developing web applications and overseeing the administration of web tools including a mission-critical, enterprise-level web content management system in support of the university’s official web presence.

Required Qualifications

• A master’s degree – or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience – in a related field
• Significant years of progressive responsibility in:
– web communication and technology
– effectively interacting with peers, customers and technical resources
– managing technical project teams
– managing a sophisticated web presence
– implementing sound web architecture principles
– designing, developing and programming web applications using PHP, JavaScript, HTML and CSS
– using web standards and usability & accessibility guidelines to build user interfaces
– writing secure code and building complex, dynamic web applications
– working in a full software development lifecycle
– managing and administering a complex content management system
– defining project requirements and specifications, creating detailed project plans with appropriate timelines, and managing resources, milestones and tasks through to completion
• Ability to serve as a technical expert and resource to other team members, web managers and the campus community
• Ability to analyze functional requirements and communicate technical issues to a non-technical customer base
• Experience with project management methodology and concepts including the management of cross-functional teams
• Ability to plan and manage campus-wide web implementation projects
• Deep understanding of web environment architecture and security
• Considerable knowledge of requirements assessment, systems analysis, and design patterns
• Experience with frameworks and libraries such as jQuery, Bootstrap, CodeIgniter or equivalent
• Experience with database design and development, particularly MySQL/MariaDB
• Competent in the transformation of XML using XSLT
• Capable of using a variety of web development and site management tools
• Background using a variety of operating systems, particularly Mac, Windows and Linux
• Familiar with common social media APIs (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, YouTube)
• Working knowledge of streaming media, web graphics, audio and video
• Leadership skills needed to manage projects and mentor individuals
• Evidence of on-going professional development

• Experience working in a higher education environment
• Experience administering and developing with Cascade Server
• Experience implementing PHP in the CodeIgniter framework
• Experience implementing CSS & Javascript in the Bootstrap framework
• Experience implementing jQuery and jQueryUI
• Experience using Git version control system
• Experience using SSH and the Linux command line
• Experience with Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Google Custom Search Engine
