Posting Summary:
The University of Virginia (UVA) Library seeks a Digital Library Software Engineer to develop, adapt, and maintain software solutions to support broad dissemination of the library's unique digital collections.

The Digital Library Software Engineer will work with a close team of other developers on software systems ranging from relatively small scripts that perform data transformation, to large scale web applications with complex and highly domain-specific requirements. Development efforts are usually FOSS (Free and open-source software) projects and offer opportunities to collaborate with peers across the globe.

Responsibilities include:
-Conducts complex programming assignments requiring a broad knowledge of programming procedures and data processing requirements.
-Maintains and modifies programs. Tests and documents modifications and writes operational instructions.
-Works with other Library developers to design and develop configurations, complex workflows, and system integration procedures.
-Confers with users to analyze performance and gain understanding of needed changes or modifications to existing programs.
-Provides ongoing technical assistance to customers regarding applications and participates in upgrades and system enhancement projects.
-Writes and revises program documentation, operations documentation, and user guides in accordance with standards.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
- Good organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to write software in at least one language.
