Essential Job Duties: The Senior Director for Research Fiscal Affairs is responsible for the operational day-to-day and strategic financial management of the Office of Research & Innovation (ORI). Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, this position will provide operational leadership to the Integrated Support Service Center (ISSC) team in ORI, with management responsibilities for all fiscal affairs including Research Administration and the management of NC State's Strategic Research Fund. This position has oversight of multiple funding streams including sponsored research, state appropriations, and overhead funds. Broad responsibilities include but are not limited to: -Oversee the pre- and post-research administration function for ORI Centers & Institutes as well as research generating units within the Chancellor's unit, the Provost's division, the Office of Information Technology and the Office of Finance and Administration. Partner with ORI leadership and Office of Finance and Administration for financial reporting related to 60 NC State Centers & Institutes. -Serve as the lead administrative and financial manager for ORI activities funded by or impacting sponsored research at NC State University. This includes oversight of the financial activities of 13 ORI Centers and Institutes and their sponsored research activities. -Provide insights and direction on ORI's financial strategies and due diligence, including business process reengineering and organizational restructuring. -Enhance the availability and relevancy of financial information used in strategic planning, budgeting and decision-making by producing timely and accurate financial statements, managing the financial risks of the Division, and providing financial reports to upper management and University stakeholders. -Provide for financial management standardization and improvement for ORI and assist with such at the University level -Establishing and implementing financial management policies and requirements -Work collaboratively to improve financial management within ORI and advise and coordinate the activities of ORI's individual units in the areas of financial management and accountability -Work with the Vice Chancellor, Associate and Assistant Vice Chancellors, Directors, as well as other senior staff team members to create financial and goal clarity for ORI. -Lead, manage and maintain the operating, financial and budget functions as well as strategic initiatives directly supported by ORI. This includes but is not limited to the College Share F&A budget (approx. $13 million) and the F&A Strategic Research Fund (approx. $6.5 million) -Oversee the provision of direct business services related to procurement, travel, billing, etc. to subsidiary units reporting to ORI. -Oversee annual, quarterly, and daily financial planning and record-keeping including hands on accounting and budgeting. - In the absence of the the Asst Vice Chancellor for Administration, the Senior Director will serve as a business advisor to the Vice Chancellor and other senior staff team member. -Supervisory responsibilities for the ISSC business and research administration teams

Minimum Education/Experience: Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.

Department Required Skills: -Requires a relevant post-Baccalaureate degree with a minimum of three (5) years or greater of related professional experience, or a relevant undergraduate degree and a minimum of five (7) years or greater of relevant experience may be substituted for the advanced degree -In-depth knowledge with a broad range of fiscal processes, accounting methods, and best practices. -Prior experience managing teams -Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). -Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in a dynamic environment. -Strong organizational and analytical skills with high attention to detail. -Ability to maximize efficiency, timeliness and accuracy of financial systems and processes. -High level of integrity and dependability with strong sense of urgency and results oriented.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: -Strongly prefer experience in a university setting. -Experience working with sponsored programs in a pre and post award research administration capacity is preferred. -Experience with the financial management of multiple fund types, including state appropriated, discretionary and sponsored funds, is strongly preferred.
